Tobin on legalizing gay marriage in Rhode Island:
"We don't see it as a civil rights issue," Tobin said in a recent interview, "because there's never a right to do something that's morally wrong."
bREAKdOWN:
This quote would normally offend me but it's just so stupid that I can only laugh at it. On no logical or legal grounds could this 'argument' ever stand. Firstly, how can a religious leader, in America, make public statements concerning politics? In other cases, such as at, perhaps, Bob Jones 'University,' the tax-exempt status of this crazy-christian, fundamentalist, Potemkin-village of a 'college' was lost due to college's ban on inter-racial dating and marriage. Secondly, Tobin (and his fellow bigots) doesn't see gay marriage "as a civil rights issue"? Really? Why is that, Tobin? O, that's right, "because there's never a right to do something that's morally wrong." That explains everything! But, of course, that would also mean that (if Christians had their psychotic ways) there would be no drinking, smoking, (arguably no interracial marriage) no abortion, likely, no women's rights. Furthermore, Christian 'morality' ( I guess that's what they're calling it these days) has no place in the debate of government policies. I thought that everyone learned about the Separation of Church and State in elementary school but I guess I was wrong.
cONCLUSION:
This quote illustrates that absolute absurdity of many (and in my opinion) most Christians. Quotes like this are helping to push Christianity further into obscurity, which is encouraging. However, it is sad to know that people with intelligence quotients below the average chimpanzee's still have positions of power in the United States. Alas, for now, I'll just pretend that I live in Massachusetts and day-dream about living in a European country.
